Rules and Regulations
Rules and Regulations
The La Máquina Tournament will be a T.P.S., in the terminology of the R.C. de Pineda, meaning a Private Social Tournament.
The course will remain closed while the start is taking place, the results are being processed, etc.
The start time will be 9:30 a.m., with a shotgun start.
The playing format will be the one established for this tournament: Greensome/Stableford.
Greensome is a pairs format in which:
Each player in the pair plays their tee shot on each hole.
Play then continues with one of the two balls, freely chosen by the pair.
The players then alternate shots until the hole is completed.
This format has certain specific Rules and its own formula for calculating the pair’s playing handicap.
Rules of Play
The Rules of Golf shall apply.
Except for the specific rules of this format, the Rules of Golf shall apply, in particular those relating to the Foursome format — Rule 22 — insofar as they are compatible with these specific rules.
Provisional Ball When Starting a Hole
Before selecting the ball in play, when starting a hole:
A provisional ball may only be played when BOTH balls may be lost outside a water hazard or out of bounds.
ONLY ONE of the players may play a provisional ball, and the provisional ball must be played after both players have played their tee shots and before either player goes forward to search for any of the original balls.
The provisional ball must be played from the partner’s teeing area — in the case of Greensome, either teeing area may be used.
If BOTH original balls are found within bounds or are lost in a water hazard, the provisional ball must be abandoned.
If ONLY ONE of the original balls is found within bounds or is lost in a water hazard, play shall continue with that ball, and the provisional ball must be abandoned.
Clause b of the definition of a lost ball applies to each original ball separately.
If a provisional ball is played in any way other than that established in this rule, that ball is not a provisional ball and is considered to have been played under the stroke-and-distance procedure — Rule 27-1.
Selection of the Ball in Play
Except as regards the playing of a provisional ball as established in the previous rule, the selection of the ball must be made before the players take any action with the original balls.
Examples: unplayable ball — Rule 19 — relief from an abnormal course condition — Rule 16.1, etc.
If the players take any action with one of the balls before one of the balls played from the teeing area has been selected, that ball shall be deemed to have been selected, and the other must be abandoned.
Order of Play
To determine the order of play, the balls actually selected by the sides playing together shall be taken into account.
Notwithstanding the above, the selection of the ball shall be made without delaying play — Rule 5.6.
Wrong Ball
In the event of playing a ball that must be abandoned in accordance with the above rules, Rule 6.3c shall apply.
Greensome Handicap Format
Stroke Play / Stableford: the pair’s playing handicap shall be calculated by dividing by ten the sum obtained by multiplying the lower playing handicap by six and the higher playing handicap by four.
Example of Playing Handicaps in Greensome Stroke Play / Stableford
Player A — playing handicap 7 — partners with player B — handicap 14 — against:
Player C — playing handicap 9 — partners with player D — handicap 16.
The playing handicaps for each pair would be:
Pair A-B playing handicap = (6 × 7 + 4 × 14) / 10 = 9.8
Pair C-D playing handicap = (6 × 9 + 4 × 16) / 10 = 11.8
